Baylor, Kickstarter, Textiles, 50 Gigapixel Camera, More: Afternoon Buzz, June 22, 2012

Hmm. Baylor University is digitizing its press release archive, which apparently goes back 90 years. “Our rough estimate is that some 60,000+ pages of press releases will be digitized and placed online as part of a fully searchable collection documenting events major and minor in the history of the university.”

More university digitizing: Elon University has digitized its student newspapers from 1920-1970.

The state of Texas has launched a new app with real-time driving conditions (weather, accidents, construction, etc.)

Now available: a new Google Custom Search engine devoted to textiles.

I looooove Kickstarter. There’s so much great talent and energy on that site. Now you can learn more about the funding flowing into it via the site’s new stats page. (Seven projects on Kickstarter have raised over $1M. Yow!)

Tower Records is getting its own digital archive.

The Blanton Museum of Art has a new online database.

You think your camera takes good pictures? Check out this fifty gigapixel camera developed at Duke University. Good afternoon, Internet…
