Thunderbird, Yahoo, Facebook, LOTS OF GOOGLE: Afternoon Buzz, July 7, 2012

Yahoo and Facebook have kissed and made up: “Under the agreements, which include a patent portfolio cross-license, the parties will work together to bring consumers and advertisers premium media experiences promoted and distributed across both Yahoo! and Facebook. Yahoo! and Facebook will also work together to bring Yahoo!’s large media event coverage to Facebook users by collaborating on social integrations on the Yahoo! site.”

What??! No more Thunderbird development? NOOOOOO! First Eudora, now this. I think the saying, “Only the good die young,” applies to e-mail clients. (Well, Pegasus did have an update in January, but it doesn’t have a Linux version… )

Check out the My Research Rants blog, nice stuff! I found out about it from this post on RoMEO, “a searchable database of publisher’s policies regarding the self- archiving of journal articles on the web and in Open Access repositories.”

Is Going to clean up the YouTube commenting system?. I’ll believe it when I see it. Meanwhile, moderating stays on…

Meanwhile, cool for Google: Live captions for Google+ Hangouts.

Even MORE Google, courtesy Dick Eastman: “The search engine giant has signed a deal with the Italian government to post 30,000 newsreels and documentaries from the twentieth century on YouTube.”

Have you double-checked to make sure that you have not been infected by the DNSChanger virus? Go to http://dns-ok.us/. If it’s green, you’re clean! Good afternoon, Internet…
