The Next Web looks at Filta, which lets you search Twitter users you follow. Looks like you can search by name, description, and location.

The Daily Dot has a guide which it calls “The everyday user’s guide to better tweets”, but which is really a guide to the best way to handle multimedia in your tweets, which is also important.

More records from FamilySearch! “Notable collection updates include the 133,189 indexed records from the Zimbabwe, Death notices, 1904–1976 collection; the 78,244 images from the US, Tennessee, Freedmen’s Bureau Field Office Records, 1865–1872 collection; and the 62,154 images from the Ukraine, Zaporizhia Poll Tax Census (Revision Lists), 1811–1858 collection.”

Genealogists, BillionGraves now allows you to request headstone photos.

AROUND THE SEARCH AND SOCIAL MEDIA WORLD

The New York Times has launched on Instagram (PRESS RELEASE.) “On Instagram, The Times will share work by staff and freelance photographers, provide richer context to breaking news, and experiment with an Instagram-first method of storytelling.”

The UK is proposing a hefty tax for tech companies. “One issue that many governments face around the world is tax avoidance by major tech companies…. The United Kingdom is one such nation sick of losing tax revenue to diverted profits, and their solution is to implement a ‘Google Tax’. This tax, which is currently just a proposal set to be introduced with the UK budget later this month, will capture 25% of major companies’ profits from UK operations, so long as the company accrues more than £250 million in annual revenue.”

Apparently Google’s purchase of Nest is just the beginning of its foray into smart houses.
